The Department for Education has asked all schools to ensure their school week is 32.5 hours. As a result, we will be finishing school at 3.10pm from September instead of 3.05pm. We have spoken with both the public buses and school bus companies to ensure that timetables will be adjusted to accommodate this.

Y12 FUTURE INTENTIONS WEEK (10-14th July) COUNTDOWN
Last Friday, Y12 students were given the Future Intentions Week programme and brochure. It’s great to see the enthusiasm they have had when choosing their Thursday sessions. We are particularly looking forward to seeing some of our ex-students returning from Bear Coffee and Mint Cocktail Company. Not only will they be showcasing their business acumen but also giving our Y12 students hints and tips about what employers are looking for and interview tips.

Sixth Form Finance
The school has been allocated a Discretional Bursary Fund (DBF) which students are able bid into throughout the academic year providing they meet the financial criteria set by the school and outlined in our DBF policy.
For the academic year 2022-2023 students are eligible for funding of up to £400 if their parental income is below £27,000 (proof required) or if they were designated as pupil premium. If a student is a looked after child (LAC) they may be entitled to up to £1,200 of financial support. Students must use this funding to support their Post-16 education. For example, Sixth Form uniform, transport costs to and from school, textbooks, revision guides, course materials, IT equipment (up to £150), educational visits, UCAS application Fee, University entrance tests etc.
More detailed information will be available in the DBF booklet which students can be obtain from Mrs Walton in the Sixth Form office or by emailing sixthform@tahs.org.uk
Year 12 Lockers
We are offering a limited number of lockers to Year 12 students on a first come, first served, basis. There is a £5 refundable deposit payable via Parent Pay.
Please can students bring a copy of their Parent Pay receipt to the Sixth Form Office where they will be issued with their key.
Refunds will be issued via Parent Pay when the key is returned. This must be before the end of Year 13 whilst still on roll.
30/6/23 Roundup – Sports (all year groups)
U15 cricket cup
Thomas Alleynes put on a strong cricket performance in the u15’s county cricket cup Tuesday afternoon Vs Endon High School. TAHS went in to bat first and hit 91 off 16 overs with some strong batting from Freddie Lawrie, Matthew Forrester and Jack Ashton. Endon managed 55 all out after 12 overs. Some great wicket keeping from Will Ainsworth and fielding from the Thomas Alleynes team meant that we are through to the Semi-final where we will play Painsley at home. Well done to all involved!

On Friday 23rd June 48 Year 9 students attended Staffordshire University to experience a range of different courses that are available post-18. This included, Law, Medical and Sport. Students had a great day trying new skills and learning more about higher education.

The Art Department are very excited about their annual art exhibition next Friday 7th July and very much hope parents and students who are interested will pop along on the night to look at and celebrate the work of our talented art and photography students. The evening runs from 4-6pm on a Friday 7th July in the art studio and the art department. We hope you can make it.

Help less advantaged students access uni with Join the Dots
Apply now to support your less advantaged students with the transition into university
Join the Dots is a national programme bringing together schools, colleges, and universities to support students who are likely to face barriers in accessing university. You’ll start by identifying Year 13 students who meet key targeting criteria, and who have applied to one or more of the programme’s partner universities.
Supported by a coach, students will take part in a six-month transition programme of university preparation activities, delivered through in-school resources and by The Brilliant Club.

On the Wednesday of Future Intentions Week, you will all get chance to meet some of our alumni (students from previous years) who are giving up their time to talk with you about their journeys since leaving Thomas Alleynes. Our alumni have branched out all over the world, from members of the armed forces to members of the government in London, and some of them staying closer to home. It’s rare that anybody has a career path that follows a straight line so enjoy chatting with our alumni who might inspire you to think about your future in a different way.
