23/12/23 Roundup – Maths (Year 10)

Maths House Competition

Last week saw 16 year 11 students compete in the inter house maths competition, the competition involved 8 teams, with 4 teams from both the U and H populations. This meant that students were competing both for their houses and for their half of the year.

Across a number rounds the students had their problem-solving skills tested along with their numeracy and logical thinking skills. With the scores collected at the end, the house competition was even closer than usual, with there being a tie in both 2nd and 3rd place

3rd: Torrance H, Whitmore U

2nd: Orme H, Elkes H

1st: Orme H

Well done to all those involved but in particular the team for Orme H

Setting up Parental Controls

Seven out of ten parents use technical controls on their child’s devices to manage access to content 🔒👀 Such safeguards can be an enormous asset: helping parents and carers to manage what their child might encounter online, while allowing young people to happily use their new gizmo to start exploring the digital world.

Though extremely useful once in place, such parental controls vary from device to device and can often be confusing or difficult to set up. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide outlines what defences are available on some of the most popular devices around: advice that will probably come in particularly handy at this time of year! 🎅

18/12/23 Roundup: Trial Exam Results Day (Year 11 Only)

Please see the important letter from Mrs Rudge, regarding the year 11 trial exam results day (19th December 2023).

Dear Parents,

I hope this letter finds you well. We wanted to inform you that the trial examination results for your child will be distributed on Tuesday, 19th December. These results serve as an important milestone, reflecting the hard work your child has put into their studies.

Our aim is to provide a assessment that helps guide their academic progress and identifies the next steps they need to take in the lead up to their GCSEs.

We encourage you to take the time to discuss the results with your child, recognising their achievements and addressing any challenges they may be facing. Additionally, please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about the results.

Thank you for your continued support.

We hope that you and your families are able to have an enjoyable Christmas.

Kind regards,

Julie Rudge

Safeguarding update (all years) 12 Top Tips for Children and Young People to Enjoy a Tech-Free Christmas

With Christmas right around the corner, millions of families are excitedly anticipating the chance to spend some quality time with each other over the festive season. When everyone’s engrossed in their phones or glued to their games consoles, however, genuinely meaningful moments with loved ones can often be difficult to orchestrate.

Our Christmas #WakeUpWednesday guide will lend a hand: providing some advice on helping young people to set aside their devices for a while and live in the moment. Even if going full tech cold turkey feels unrealistic, implementing just a few of these tips could still decrease the amount of screen time in your home this festive season – enabling everyone to make the most of it.
