Well Being Week

This week has been the first Thomas Alleyne’s Well Being Week for students.

Students have had the opportunity to have a break from their usual form time routines and time to focus on their well being. Students have taken part in team building activities, quizzes and listened to well being projects that are being offered to young people in the Uttoxeter area. Well done to 9E2, 10W2, 12E and 13A who were the quickest forms in their year groups in Wednesday’s team building challenge.

This week was also an opportunity to celebrate some of the successes that our students have achieved over this half term. Somenotbale achievements include:

  • 11, 859 credits have been awarded to students
  • 8 students have achieved over 120 credits
  • 66 students achieved their Gold Award
  • 195 students their Silver award
  • 344 students have achieved their bronze award

81% of students in Year 9-11 have received some level of reward today. Congratulations to students on an amazing half term of achievements.

Creative Writing Success!

You may remember that we supported the Uttoxeter Rotary Club’s Creative Writing competition this half term. A total of 17 entries were received by the Rotary Club for the Senior  section (14-18 years old), of which 10 were produced by Thomas Alleyne’s students. The theme was “Environment,” and there were some really imaginative and engaging entries submitted.

Huge congratulations go to Niamh T (10T1) and Oliver E (11E1) whose pieces were awarded second and third places respectively. Both will be given prizes, and all entries can look forward to a Certificate of Participation. Well done to you both!

GCSE Texts

We have now SOLD OUT of the Snap revision guides (Reading / Writing / R&J / AIC). If you’ve paid but not yet collected, please see Mrs Hunt in room 21 asap. It’s quicker if you have a screen shot of your receipt handy! We still have a number of Power and Conflict poetry revision guides available.

There are plenty of copies of the Romeo and Juliet text, with really helpful notes, and the hardback version of An Inspector Calls. A copy of the text is essential for Y10 and Y11 students – these versions are the ones teachers use so line numbers etc will match up.

World Book Day – Thursday 2nd March

When we return after half term we’ll be celebrating World Book Day. This year is their 25th anniversary, and all students will receive their usual book token. We’ll have various events in school, including a “Collect a Conversation” competition; form time creative challenges and the usual opportunities to simply enjoy books and share the pleasure of reading.

Fancy a challenge? We’d like as much of our school community as possible to have a bit of fun with books this half term, so if you find yourself in an “Extreme Reading” situation (at the top of a mountain; decorating a wall; jumping the steps at Dovedale…) please take a photo and send it in. We’ll display the best ones in school (and of course, in future Roundups).

Netball Vs Painsley

Yr 9

Squad

The year 9 squad played a competitive fixture against Painsley on Thursday evening. Despite a strong performance particularly in the first two quarters where there were only 2 goal difference in score, the game ended as an 18-7 defeat. Many of the girls played sections of the game in new positions and learnt lots. The fixture provided experience for the East Staffs tournament after half term.

Skye, Louie, Amy, Emily, Chloe, Lily, Rachel, Izzy, Katie & Erin

POM – Amy

U19’s

The senior team’s fixture was a 36-13 victory for Thomas Alleyne’s. The group continued with their own leadership and made tactical decisions at the break to ensure that they dominated the fixture throughout all four quarters. There was a learning experience for some of the players, with the term ‘pocket ball’ As always an excellent fixture to watch and the team were great role models for the Year 9’s watching.

Team – Jess, Freya, Hattie, Frankie, Evie, Eve & Amelia

Thank you to Martha and Poppy for officiating
