GCSE pod challenge – year 10 students. Escape the mocks with the best possible grade
We have now been doing the intervention challenge for 2 weeks and your response has been incredible. In just 10 school days over 770 pods have been watched and over 5700 questions answered by well over 100 students.
Questions are such a valuable way to revise, reminding your brain that the topic is important and worth remembering. Reinforcing the neurons to make the memory stronger.
This is why this week I would like to introduce you to a way of challenging yourself with this questions. GCSEpod has an element named “Check and Challenge”. This is difficult questions for you to check your understanding and challenge yourself to succeed. These questions can be accessed any time without a teacher needing to set them and I’m going to share with you how.
1. Pick your subject
From the main page click on the subject your would like to search for questions on. You may need to press the “Show more” button if your subject doesn’t show in the first list.
2. Choose your topic
Consult your revision list if you have one and choose a topic. For check and challenge it must be one with a diamond on the tile. Like the Computer Systems one below.
3. Choose your subtopic (if there is one)
If given another set of tiles then choose your subtopic. Still needs to be one with a diamond option as below.
4. Choose check and challenge
You do this by clicking on the purple C&C button as shown below by the big red arrow.
5. Go!
Press the start button to access the questions.
As always if you need any help please come and see Mrs Hadfield in C3 at break or lunch. Alternatively you can send a message on Teams.
GCSE pod challenge – year 10 students. Escape the mocks with the best possible grade
The year 10 mock examination timetable has now been shared so we would like to take this opportunity to challenge all of our students to take control of their future by building good habits that allow them to get the very best results from their GCSEs. Starting with the mock examinations.
To encourage these habits we will launch this week our mock examination challenge. Students using GCSE pod to watch pods and answer questions will score points for each. The 12 students with the highest points between now and the start of the mocks (19th June) will win an afternoon off timetable to take part in an online escape room.
Any problems with GCSE pod please speak to Mrs Hadfield in C3 at break or lunch. Bring along your device and we can ensure that you are set to revise where ever you are.

As end of year assessments get closer, how can you support pupils to revise for their exams? Spend one minute reading our five golden rules.
Little and often Pupils should revise regularly in small chunks to reduce overload and maximise memory.
Mix it up Alternating topics for study will boost long-term memory.
Minimise distractions Pupils who study without listening to music perform better in exams than those who do. Keep the learning environment focused.
Encourage self-care Encourage pupils to get a good amount of sleep, eat breakfast and exercise.
Quizzing Retrieval practice leads to greater knowledge retention over time. You could set our unit quizzes for pupils to complete in-class or as homework. Use the results to identify areas they may be finding more challenging and help you pinpoint your class’ revision needs.
Want some help preparing revision resources? We have thousands of adaptable teaching resources all completely free andsearchable by topic and key stage.
As I’m sure you are aware from previous posts all students have access to this fantastic resource. There are 1,000s of pods (videos) covering the whole range of subjects and exam boards offered at Thomas Alleynes. Data has shown that students who make good use of these pods to review and revise work achieve significantly higher than predicted in their exams. If any student is struggling to log on to GCSE pod then they can access support in C3 with Mrs Hadfield any time.
Orme house were last weeks winners for students watching the most pods.
English Literature was the most popular subject with nearly double the amount of Pods watched… yes I’ve enquired to their secret.
Year 9 is the most active year group. Clearly not waiting around in preparing for their GCSEs.
Computer Science just edging in the lead for number of assignments handed in.
Biology really upping the challenge with by far the most questions answered.

Intrigued? More details:
GCSE Pod is the paid premium revision resource we have used for several years now. As part of the package that we buy ever student in years 9 to 11 have access to this resource. All year 9s that don’t already have access will be able to do so in their next Computing lesson.
The great news is that through the research GCSE Pod have conducted they have evidence to suggest that not only do students achieve on average a grade higher (compared to those that don’t use it) but this effect is also increased if the school have used GCSE Pod for an extended time (which we have).
GCSE Pod has a whole host of resources at your disposal. You choose the courses that you are interested in and there are pods (videos) to watch and questions to answer. If you get a question wrong it will recommend a pod that will help you fill that learning gap.
