22/1/23 Roundup – Key messages & Term dates (all year groups)

We would like to congratulate students who have sat examinations in Sport, Animal Care, Forensic and Applied Science and Health and Social Care over the last two weeks. Whilst the main examination season is in the Summer, over 170 students have successfully sat examinations during January. Their conduct has been exemplary. Last week, we shared the November resit results for Maths and English with students. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt to pass an examination and we are thrilled where students have achieved these important qualifications.

The vast majority of Year 11 students have now received their ‘Future Intentions’ interview when they discussed their next steps with a leader in school. Each time we hold these interviews it is a privilege to hear how hard so many of the students are working and their plans for the future. As part of this interview we encourage all students to have a structured plan in place for revision in Year 11 and 13. If any student needs help putting this together please ask them to see Mrs Lindsay or their form tutor. Following the success of the presentations delivered to Year 11 by ‘Inner Mind’ we have planned to ask them to come back into school to deliver the same training for Year 9 and 10 next week. The sessions focus on motivation and organisation and hopefully will help Year 9 and 10 as they move through their school journey.

I hope people can join us for our ‘Future Intentions’ evening next week, when we will have external providers in school to speak with our students and their families. Please see the Future Intentions notice (below) for further details.

Pastoral reminder

From all pastoral can we remind hoodies are not permitted and will be confiscated. As it is very cold, blazer and either a plain black or school jumper should be worn all this week. For further clarification coats will be needed for breaks and lunchtimes when outside but shouldn’t be worn in lessons.

Urgent safeguarding reminder

I appreciate this was shared last week but with the safety of our young people being so important I will keep reminding. Please read, share and get in touch if you need any support.

Safeguarding: “A Game” – Warning to Parents

It has come to our attention that there is “A game” being circulated via Facebook to children which contains several different actions for them to complete, including the encouragement of self-harm and hurting others.

Whilst many of our children will, I am sure, be confident in ignoring these messages, we are conscious that around the country there have been several incidents where dares via social media have led to child fatalities.

Please be vigilant around your child’s use of social media and if you have concerns, advice can be sought from the following platforms or contact the safeguarding team and school.

Year 9 Workshop – Studying with the brain in mind

On the 24th January all Y9 and 10 students will be taking part in a one hour workshop entitled ‘studying with the brain in mind’. This session is run by Inner Drive and designed to give students a better understanding of how to get the best from their brain and effective ways to revise.  Many Y11 students found this session useful and so we wanted to share this opportunity with all students.

Event – Future Intentions Careers Fair

On Thursday 26th January we are hosting our Future Intentions Careers Fair in the sports hall between 6.00pm – 8.00pm.

The event is suitable for all students from Years 7 to 13 and all Yr 7 and Yr 8 students from the three middle schools have received a flyer inviting them to the event.

We currently have over 50 exhibitors invited including John Taylor Teaching School, Nottingham University, RAF, Keele University, JCB, Francesco Hairdressing, DBC Training any many more….

This evening offers a fantastic opportunity for students and parents to find out more about not only Thomas Alleyne’s High School but all aspects of Future Intentions.
