4/12/22 Roundup – Key messages & Term dates (all year groups)

Behind the scenes this week

Another busy one here at Thomas Alleyne’s. On Thursday we had year 13 parents evening. It never ceases to amaze me just how much positive energy there is at these events. From the buzz in the room, you’d never know it’s a dreary, drizzly and dark evening outside. Thank you, as always, to all the staff, students, parents and carers that continually push for the very best for all our students.

Another spotlight from this week that has stuck with me was at break time in the school canteen. It was a really uplifting moment when two students got out a travel board for chess and were very shortly swarmed by an entranced audience. There were the back seat drivers, the cheerleaders and the quiet onlookers. The highlight of which was when a staff member mentioned “you’d have never seen this before the phone ban”. Having all our students back from the virtual world, involved in the community in front of them, has been so very rewarding.

Non uniform day for all year groups

Friday 9th December will be non-uniform day for all year groups.  This is the date of the annual Dougie Mac Christmas jumper day so we would encourage students to wear their best festive jumper.  However, this is not compulsory.  Suggested donation is £2 with proceeds being split 50/50 between Dougie Mac and YESS.  Parent Pay is open for donations and 6th formers will be collecting cash donations during registration on the day.  PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE MOCKS ON THIS DAY SO REMEMBER TO PACK ALL YOUR NECESSARY EQUIPMENT.

Mental Health Support team in schools

Our school is currently working in partnership with the Mental Health Support Team.
The Mental Health Support Team work closely with our school to address the mental
health needs of young people as well as supporting school with their whole school approach
to mental health and wellbeing.

There may be times where the Mental Health Support Team will be in school delivering
assemblies, workshops and drop-in sessions for students.  If parents have any objection to your
child participating in this work, please let us know.

Mental Health Support Teams also offer low intensity group work and if required, 1:1
support for young people with mild to moderate mental health concerns for which consent
will be gained from parents/carers before a referral is made.

You can find out more information about Mental Health Support Teams by visiting their
website https://camhs.mpft.nhs.uk/south-staffordshire/our-services or giving them a call on 01283 504487

If you have any further questions, please get in touch to let us know.

Data collection sheets

Data collection sheets have been re-issued to those students we have not yet received a checked and signed data sheet from. It is important we have up to date contact information to enable us to contact you in an emergency.

Please check and sign the data collection sheet and return it to the school office as soon as possible but before the end of term.
