TUTOR TIME ACTIVITIES W/C 31st January 2022
As part of our legal responsibility to guide students about healthy relationships, students will be asked to watch a short BBC video about stalking and discuss surrounding issues. Discuss questions in groups on the handout they will be given in form.
As part of our legal responsibility to guide students about healthy relationships, students will watch a video from Plan International about sexual identity. Then will watch a clip giving advice to LGBQT+ teens.

Year 12 students GCSE certificates
Year 12 students can collect their GCSE certificates from the Sixth Form office. Please collect them at break and lunch time only.
SIXTH FORM FUTURE INTENTIONS
We would encourage students to attend these webinars which are free to them on the Unifrog VLE. This can be done at home or during 6th form 7 time. These can help students to increase their personal skills and employability as well as taking care of their mental health.

What started in 2010 as a residential summer school is now an extended programme of support for students incorporating both an online programme and an in person residential academic module over the summer – all completely free. The Department of Materials are pleased to offer an academic module to students interested in Materials Science at Oxford, including an exciting programme of lectures, tutorials, practicals, and more.

Monday 31st January is my last day at Thomas Alleyne’s before I move off to explore new directions, and I wanted to say a huge thank you to all the students and parents who’ve helped us so supportively over the last fifteen years. I am grateful to many of you for your support, and am hugely proud of those students with whom I’ve worked, and of their many and varied achievements. The parent – student – staff community is one of the aspects I will miss the most. Cheers!

A tough match this afternoon for a depleted year 9 team away in Cannock. The game started with few chances for either side and after an even first half the score remained 0-0. Alleyne’s came out on the front foot in the second half and managed to win themselves a penalty, with Josh Beardsley stepping up and placing it in the bottom corner. Alleyne’s defended extremely well to keep Kingsmead from scoring, with two great saves from Tom Robbins. A fantastic performance from the Y9 boys.

Year 9 Boys Rugby – East Staffordshire District Tournament
Thomas Alleyne’s travelled to the new Burton Rugby club on Wednesday night for the district tournament. With several starting players unavailable due to Covid and illness, we were short on numbers and had players playing in unfamiliar positions.Despite this we scored first against Deferrers but with us still trying to find cohesion in defence Deferrers caught us cold in the last minute to beat us 2 tries to 1. In the following games against Paulet, Granville, John Taylor and Robert Sutton we improved each game and began to put together some fantastic support play. Some incredible power play in attack and defence from Oscar, Adam F, Adam R, Tom and Jonte asserted our dominance, Henry and Rhys controlled the rucks with Sam supplying excellent ball from scrum half. Toby captained the side well and began to improve the organisation in defence. Max out the back supplied pace and footwork resulting in some long range tries. After the first game we comfortably won all our other games and were unfortunate to finish 2nd overall. Adam F was player of the tournament with some great barnstorming tries.

Mrs Lawrence would like to nominate Evie R (Year 12) for a fantastic start as Head of Project for (IRIS) DNA Origami and for successfully submitting the groups’ work to the lead researcher at the university in charge of the project.
Mrs North would like to nominate Evie D and Sebastian G in 9H2A for excellent engagement in Biology lessons and showing superb understanding of osmosis.
Mr Melland would like to nominate Millie W, Holly T and Elin L in Year 10 for continuing to work hard in Physics.

University Hospitals Birmingham Trust Work Experience Programme
We are excited to announce that the largest free national work experience programme for your aspiring medical, dental and veterinary students has returned. This was developed last year in partnership with Birmingham Universities Hospitals Trust and it is free for students from 10-13 or S3-S6 year groups to participate in. We took a small break from the virtual work experience programme in November to convert the LIVE teaching into E-learning courses that students can now complete in their own time. Students have 1 month to complete each session, and once they have completed the programme they will receive a certificate from Medic Mentor and UHB as evidence of their participation. Medical Schools are accepting virtual work experience as an alternative to in-person work experience in light of the pandemic and reduced access to placements.
Participation in the virtual work experience will also provide students (and their parents) with several opportunities to speak to doctors, dentists and vets continuously throughout the academic year. They will be able to do this on Tuesday evenings and most weekends, for free. They can also call the Mentor Helpline number 01530 417 299 from 10am-5pm Mon-Fri if they would like to advice on careers or applying to medical, dental, vet school. Mostly this number is manned by Doctors. Medic Mentor is a non-profit social enterprise and all of our proceeds are reinvested in supporting students to make informed career decisions.
