A huge thank you to our generous students and their families for all the support on Friday 10th December.  We raised a fantastic £1612.38 to be shared between Dougie Mac and the school walk.  Many thanks to the Senior Prefects and Sixth Form students for helping to organise the event and collect the donations from form groups.

Christmas Biscuits!!!

Students in BTEC Child Development have been exploring fine motor skills and intellectual development by looking at Christmas activities for children.  Today we made Christmas biscuits. Which is your favourite?

We say goodbye to the wonderful Mrs Simmonds-Vaughan who has been an inspiration in the Art Department over the last few years. Staff and students have loved working with her and wish her well at her new school. Year 11 students have been busy working on their Art mock exam over the last couple of weeks; creating an array of creative responses to their coursework themes.

Well done Year 11, the Art Staff are very proud of you and the work you have created during the exams. It has been fantastic to see individuality and personalisation in these outcomes ranging from fashion pieces to ceramic vessels.

See below for the Aet Competition.

For our final week in the Music Department, we were visited by Alleyne’s Music Graduate William Parker. He left Alleyne’s 6 years ago, after achieving an A at A Level Music and then went on to study Music composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He is currently studying a Masters Degree at the Royal Academy of Music and generously donated some of his time to speak to our current A Level Music students this week. Will talked about how to be successful at A Level and inspired and motivated our students by talking about becoming ‘obsessed with music and studying.’ This was the first of several visits that Will has planned and he has offered to run composition workshops next term with both GCSE and A Level music students, which will be a fantastic opportunity as he will be sharing the knowledge he has gained from being able to study at some of the most prestigious music conservatoires in Europe.

Mock Exams

This week saw students in year 13 and year 11 receive their mock examination results. Students in year 11 were given the opportunity to attend a results collection session, to prepare them for the process they will follow after external examinations. We are really proud of the effort that all of our students put into their preparation for their exams, the manner in which they approached the examinations themselves and the exceptional attitude and behaviour of the year 11 students during the results collection sessions. We hope that all of our students obtained the results that they deserve for their hard work and we look forward to welcoming them back to school in January to analyse their responses and support them in making even more progress in the coming months.

Data Collection

Many thanks to parents who have already returned data collection sheets.

If you have not already done so, please check/update, sign the data collection sheet for your child and return the sheet to our school office as soon as possible.  You can email/scan the sheet back to, or post it back to us at the usual school address. This information helps us to safeguard your child and enables us to contact you in an emergency.

Science News

Visit to the Crime Scene House

On Wednesday, Forensic Science students in Year 12 and Year 13 visited the Crime Scene House at Staffordshire University.  Here, they worked with university staff to collect evidence from a crime scene as part of their course work.  They collected physical evidence such as weapons, chemical evidence such as powders and biological evidence such as blood splatter and DNA.  All students worked incredibly hard and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  In particular, Teegan B, O’Shea P and Jake R showed real skill in identifying and bagging up their evidence.  Well done to everyone.
