TAHS Weekly Newsletter.
Please ensure that your son or daughter is aware of the sign out and in procedure that we have implemented. In order to sign in and out all students must scan the QR code and complete the online form with name, date and time of signing in and/or out.
Images of the QR code to scan will be situated upstairs in the Sixth Form area.
All students must use this system if they are leaving school and when returning into school if it is on the same day. This is in order for us to ensure the safety of our students and to adhere to safeguarding and fire safety regulations.
As we have now taken most o the photographs of our Year 12 students we can start putting their ID together, when these are ready for collection we will notify all students through their Insight and place it on Insight notice board. We do still have some photographs to take, these should all be completed by the end of next week.
Can all students in Year 13 ensure that they have all their work that was completed during lockdown accessible as this will be needed for revision purposes as we start heading towards mock examinations.
I have sent all Year 13 students notices to inform them that they must update the class teachers on Unifrog to enable them to complete their academic references. I have been informed that a number of students have not done this. Please could you check that they have done this. Unifrog is an amazing tool that we have purchased for the school and it really helps support our Sixth Form students in their how to preapre for their next steps Post 18. As well as utilising Unifrog to help with next steps I need to encourage all Year 13 students to register with UCAS, instructions on how to do this was sent out in July. We are commencing with practical PE lessons from 28th September. The activities delivered will be based on the government’s guidance. Please ensure all students in Years 9, 10 and 11 have all items of PE kit and that they fit correctly.

Students will be informed of the activities they are doing on Insight. Due to the nature of the timetable and the changing government advice it is important students check this before each PE lesson for any changes.
Assessment Weeks- Year 11 and Year 13
You have an assessment fortnight from the 5th October- 16th October.
This means that within your lessons, you will be asked to complete some work alone and using exam style questions to make sure that you are as prepared as you can be for your exams next Summer.
To prepare for this make sure that you are revising what you have been studying since returning in September. We are excited for you to show us what you can do!
Next week is the official launch for the Burton and Uttoxeter Mental Health Support Team in Schools. Natalie and Bridie have already been working with students from our School and across the pyramid.

CHANGES TO ENGLISH LITERATURE GCSE- Year 11:
As you will be aware, there have been some changes to the English Literature GCSE. Students will no longer be tested on the Power and Conflict poetry anthology. You will still be tested on An Inspector Calls, Romeo and Juliet, The Sign of Four and ‘unseen’ poetry.
If you wish to buy your own copies of the texts, they are available on the school shop for £13.85 (called Year Ten Lit Pack) and can be collected from Mrs Peers.
Revision guides will be available after half term.
We have had two Rhea chicks hatch on the farm. They have been named Ray and Chris. They will stay on the farm until they are bigger and then they will go home with one of our farm staff.

Do you want to work as part of a team to support our Eco-School Committee and to push our school to be awarded a Green Flag status?
Eco-School is an opportunity for our school to be awarded a Green Flag status. We have a team of students in Year 13, led by Okii, who last year worked with Mrs Rudge to ensure that all buses and minibuses that were dropping of and collecting students from TAHS turned their engines off while students were embarking and disembarking, they spoke about how they would like more bike sheds so students could be encouraged to travel to school by bike and be able to securely lock them up. Mrs Rudge has since provided 2 further bike sheds on the school site. We have also been able to secure an area of land on the school site that we can use to plane trees on. This is only the start of our journey. I will be working with Okii and his team in Year 12 and 13 to see what else we can achieve this year. We are also going to ask for representatives from Years 9-11 to join our team and to help make a difference.

4 weeks in and still the new timetable presents challenges and changes for us, but the students continue to adapt well to them. I miss seeing our Elkes tutors so often, and I know they’re enjoying the skills sessions which currently take the place of form time. Our tutor meeting was a great start to the week, and while it’s just not the same on Zoom, being together in some sense was a real boost. For a wide range of reasons, and for each making progress on their various paths, special mentions this week go to Harvey P, Joely and Selena, and Tom K.
Today we have completed the four week timetable, the new look school day has become more of a routine. Miss Arbery and myself are still keen to hear the positive activities that you are participating in away from the classroom. UK University & Apprenticeship Search Virtual Fair on Wednesday 21 October from 12:00-18:00. The event is free, it will feature over 80 universities, colleges and apprenticeship providers, and it’s open to students in Year 13, 12 and 11.

The event will also include 10 webinars which will provide information on topics such as Choosing a course, Student finance, Personal statements, Employability and Apprenticeships

Year 11 and 13 Questionnaires
Just a reminder that we would like our year 11 and 13 students to complete their future intentions questionnaires. If they haven’t completed the questionnaire yet they will have received an email this week with a reminder.
Their answers will allow us to identify the support they need this year with their decision making for the end of their key stages.
